Andy Duffie ‘78, founder and owner of the Aggie Century Tree Project, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2020.

The roots of Andy’s Aggie Century Tree Project date back to 2010, with a harvest of 3,000 acorns and a vision to fund a prestigious $100,000 President's Endowed Scholarship at the Texas A&M University Foundation — a goal that was accomplished in two years, thanks to Andy’s tenacity, his growing Facebook page, and the generosity of Aggies everywhere who were eager to have a little piece of Aggieland in their own backyard.

In many ways, Andy’s Aggie Century Tree Project perfectly represented who he was as a person. He was a living embodiment of the Aggie Spirit, and dedicated much of his life to the school’s core values of service. He was constantly paying it forward and looking for opportunities to give back to causes greater than himself, including his relationships with family, friends, classmates, and neighbors around the country — many of whom he met through his project.

The legacy that Andy left behind through the Aggie Century Tree Project is vast. More than 3,000 of his seedlings have been planted across Texas, as well as 18 other states. They have been planted to celebrate weddings, commemorate births, as memorials to friends and family, and to remind Aggies of the “spirit that can n’er be told” in places far from campus.

But alongside that are other legacies. Andy was a devoted husband and loving father, a dutiful son and brother, and a loyal friend to many. He will be deeply missed.
